{"id":1512,"date":"2016-04-22T11:23:06","date_gmt":"2016-04-22T11:23:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/nayrb.org\/~blog\/?p=1512"},"modified":"2016-04-22T04:22:02","modified_gmt":"2016-04-22T04:22:02","slug":"stupid-hackathon-toronto-ideas","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/nayrb.org\/~blog\/2016\/04\/22\/stupid-hackathon-toronto-ideas\/","title":{"rendered":"Stupid Hackathon Toronto Ideas"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>WARNING: SOME OF THE LINKS BELOW MAY LEAD TO NSFW OR TRIGGERING THINGS STOP YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED STOP<\/p>\n<p>Some of you may be familiar with the &#8216;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.stupidhackathon.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Stupid Hackathon<\/a>&#8216;, which I believe was started by Amelia Winger-Bearskin and Sam Lavigne at ITP in New York a few years ago.<\/p>\n<p>(I also know of a <a href=\"https:\/\/stupidhackathon.github.io\/\" target=\"_blank\">San Francisco Stupid Hackathon<\/a>, hosted by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.noisebridge.net\/\" target=\"_blank\">Noisebridge<\/a> (of course).[1])<\/p>\n<p>Setting aside the issues of privilege and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0118655\/quotes?item=qt0367872\" target=\"_blank\">General Malaise<\/a> required to make such an event work, I wanted to talk about a similar event happening in Toronto in late May:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/stupidhacktoronto.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">http:\/\/stupidhacktoronto.com\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The categories (APOLOGIES FOR YELLING STOP THEY WERE ALSO YELLING ON THE SITE STOP):<\/p>\n<p>MARGINALLY IMPROVED FOOD DELIVERY<br \/>\n &#8211; Is this the purchasing of food on margin?  Speculating on food &#8216;Futures&#8217;?  Or &#8216;Presents&#8217;?<br \/>\n &#8211; Is this finally the incarnation of AirHamAndCheese.com, the sharing economy startup[2] for fractional sandwich ownership?  Only time will tell.<br \/>\n &#8211; Is this anything like &#8216;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=H_p8XPd4ljg\" target=\"_blank\">The Food Lift<\/a>&#8216;?<\/p>\n<p>REDUCTIONIST <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Boltzmann_machine\" target=\"_blank\">BOLTZMANN MACHINES<\/a><br \/>\n &#8211; How many neurons are required for full reductionism?<br \/>\n &#8211; What happens when you only have one neuron?  Does it talk to itself?<br \/>\n &#8211; If it can talk to itself in multiple ways, is that still turing-complete?<br \/>\n &#8211; Do you get one of these by taking the PCA of your <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Boltzmann_machine#Restricted_Boltzmann_machine\" target=\"_blank\">Restricted Boltzmann Machine<\/a> and dropping the 90% least used neurons?<\/p>\n<p>EMOJIANAL INTELLIGENCE<br \/>\n &#8211; I think I know what they mean here, and I&#8217;m not talking about this topic here.<\/p>\n<p>QUICKTIME FOR PEGASI<br \/>\n &#8211; Is this about a <a href=\"http:\/\/memory-alpha.wikia.com\/wiki\/The_Pegasus\" target=\"_blank\">phase-cloaking<\/a> video display?<br \/>\n &#8211; Perhaps hacking a <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/MOS_Technology_6502\" target=\"_blank\">6502<\/a>-based <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Pegasus_%28console%29\" target=\"_blank\">console<\/a> to run video?<br \/>\n &#8211; Perhaps a squadron flying horses in a hurry?<br \/>\n &#8211; Thinking about it, what would you need in video for a flying horse?  Some type of HUD?  Probably something very light.<\/p>\n<p>MILLENIAL FALCONS<br \/>\n &#8211; I was looking at our new condo building, and what looked like a <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Red-tailed_hawk\" target=\"_blank\">Red-tailed Hawk<\/a> was perched on top.  I hope we can become friends.  They can live to 25 years old in the wild, so it might have been a millenial.<br \/>\n &#8211; How would you feed a <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Peregrine_falcon#Ecology_and_behaviour\" target=\"_blank\">stooping<\/a> bird?  Would you put food out on a flexible holder a few feet out halfway up a very tall building?
